Cross-country skiing at Potato creek state mainly takes
the form of ski touring on groomed
or ungroomed
ski trails. Other types of cross-country skiing include Back country
skiing
( skiing on unbroken trails or "cutting"
your own trails as you ski ), Telemark skiing
( downhill skiing done on touring skis or skis made specifically
for that purpose ), and
ski racing (xc-skiing
done on specially prepared trails ).
The two styles of xc-skiing are classical ( essentially
walking or gliding on your skis )
and skating
( essentially skating on your xc skis ).
Physically preparing for xc-skiing can range from simple
walking,
walking with poles, or roller skiing
( metal skis with small wheels that can
be used
on paved roads ).
.
Caution! xc skiing, telemark skiing, and roller
skiing can be dangerous. Take all
appropriate
precautions and seek instruction from a qualified person.
